Iceland Stopover
When going to Europe, stop in one of the most unspoiled places on earth. With a population of just over 300,000 ICELAND combines Nordic style and sophistication with dramatic nature and geothermal activity. And it is not just the nature in Iceland that is unspoiled but the culture as well. From its first settlers in 874 c.e the country developed over 1000years with very little influence from the outside world. The countries language, government and laws are very similar to the old Vikings; as well as many cultural traditions such as the sagas. Bergman Week, 24 June-30 June 2009, Fårö, Sweden
Bergman Week is a six day celebration of Ingmar Bergman’s art, with films, guests, seminars and tours to filming locations on Fårö. Ingmar Bergman first came to Fårö on a stormy day in April 1960, reluctantly looking for a shooting location for Through a Glass Darkly. The visit made a deep impression and Since then, seven of Bergman’s films have been shot on this enchanting Swedish island. Fårö is also the place where the filmmaker lived and worked for much of his life, and is also where he is now buried. Bergman’s abundant work is a constant source of inspiration to filmmakers from around the world and his very human themes are timeless!
